Anxieties

So many days of rain, gray skies, social media, and televisions sharing all the negativity in the world… it’s no wonder people retreat into themselves and sink into a sea of pessimism. And yet… we’re still alive, and the sun rises again to brighten our lives. That’s why we must always seek the friendly hand that truly listens and shares your anxieties with you, because a shared burden is lighter and eventually dissolves into nothing.

Speaking of anxieties, here’s a poem I hope will encourage you to share, too, your moments of anxiety… and also your moments of joy. But don’t forget one very important thing: Sharing with others is something done in person, face to face, not through little messages on social media.

ANXIETIES

Time has passed, watered by rain,
loneliness, the wind…
I’ve seen it load the sky with gray and sadness
into the drawers of winter.
Through the glass, sheltered, that’s how I feel,
and yet not more alive for it.
Life, beings, things, pass before me,
in front of my window, parading through the nursery,
taking refuge in the shop for moments.

I don’t know why I’m here or what I’m doing,
but I have to write and rummage through hidden things
for that light my hope ignites.
I stretch out my fingers, and touching any object, I feel it pulse,
I can discover there’s life beyond what we see…

I breathe in the fresh air of this day,
and thousands of worlds and beings flow face-up
and deep within. I swallow life and digest it.
I nourish myself with questions I turn into thoughts.
I’m alone before the paper I must fill in this play,
and the stage awaits me amid the shadows.

If you’ve ever felt this way,
if one day you heard the sound of things,
if one day the question was you…
tell me and share your anxieties with me.

A well-documented exploration of Medicine, Pharmacy, and rural society in the 19th century through two biographies that should not be forgotten:
